Job Summary
Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) at the University of Utah is looking for an experienced information security analyst to design and develop policies and procedures that protect our organization’s computing infrastructure from all forms of security breaches. This individual will be responsible for anticipating and identifying security vulnerabilities and working with HCI and University departments to resolve them, ensuring that our network and data remain secure.
This person will work primarily with the HCI Pedigree & Population Resource group who manages the Utah Population Database (UPDB) Shared Resource, which is one of the world’s richest sources of in-depth information that supports research on genetics, epidemiology, demography, and public health. They will also work with two closely coordinated entities at HCI to help ensure HCI enterprise security: the Computer and Technology Group (CATG) that manages network and server infrastructure; and, the Research Informatics Shared Resource (RISR) which provides comprehensive software solutions enabling HCI investigators to obtain data from local, statewide, and national sources.
To be successful in this position, applicants should have expert analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of best practices to prevent a wide range of security threats. The Sr. Data Security Analyst will also need excellent communication skills to train and educate faculty, staff and students about various information security topics, to define security risks and possible solutions for HCI and University leadership, and to serve as a liaison with external stakeholders about information security issues.

Responsibilities
· Identifying and evaluating vulnerabilities in our current network.
· Developing and implementing a comprehensive plan to secure our computing network.
· Monitoring network usage to ensure compliance with security policies.
· Keeping up to date with developments in IT security standards and threats.
· Performing penetration tests to find any flaws.
· Documenting any security breaches and assessing their damage.
· Collaborating with CATG and RISR to improve security.
· Working closely with University offices who have oversight responsibilities for information security and the protection of human subjects research data.
· Educating colleagues about security software and best practices for information security.
· Assisting with audits, reporting and compliance requirements as directed.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in area of specialty, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Preferences
· Degree in computer science or a technology-related field.
· Professional information security certification.
· Experience in an information security role.
· Solid knowledge of various information security frameworks.
· Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
· Ability to educate a non-technical audience about various security measures.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.
