What we want

Brand management and strategic design continues to be a priority for our university and department, as we strive to showcase the benefits of our multicultural community. This is more so important to our new Communication Manager. We are seeking someone with expertise in writing, editing and production and design of informational and promotional materials and media. As our marketing brand manager you will coordinate departmental strategic communication plans across multiple mediums; assist our staff and students in developing marketing strategies and materials and identify mechanisms for promoting our programs and services. In addition, you will oversee the development and production of our websites and publications, inclusive of managing production schedules; assist in special event planning; field inquiries regarding departmental activities and publications, and ensure compliance with university's guidelines and marketing standards. If quality assurance is something you value, that constant evaluation and marketing research will be needed in this role. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of related experience including two years of related supervisory experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Brand Manager: Serves as the department brand manager to maintain a positive image of the department. Writes, edits, and assists in the production, design, and securing of informational and promotional materials, presentations, and media. Establishes and ensures staff and students are in compliance with department branding expectations.  Identify and resolve any issues with promotional content in a timely and professional manner.

  • Strategic Communications: Creates, develops, and implements departmental strategic communication plans across multiple mediums in alignment with department vision, mission, and goals. Manages Conducts marketing research as appropriate to remain timely and compliant. Identifies mechanisms for promoting department programs and services. Oversees the development and production of departmental publications. Coordinates and monitors production schedules. Oversees/maintains department media resources, including camera(s), social media accounts, and license information. Ensures compliance with university guidelines and marketing standards. Assures that print and web-based products conform to journalistic standards. Responds to media inquiries and maintain relationships with members of the press, outlets, and influencers to build strategic partnerships and grow brand notoriety. Coordinates with creative groups in the development of effective marketing material. Actively pitches media opportunities to various media outlets and key stockholders. Assist department staff and student groups in developing marketing strategies and materials.

  • Design/Develop/Support:  Collects and edits information to publish. Presents and communicates department programs and functional areas to university constituents and stakeholders. Overseas production of publications and graphic displays. Supports department communications needs, including photography, articles, graphic design, promotional materials, research, interviews, video, production, etc. Assists department staff and student groups in developing marketing strategies and materials that align with the department brand.   Develops website and social media content to elevate the department, increases traffic, and further establishes the department’s brand to multiple stakeholders, including current students, former students, prospective students, campus partners, and faculty and staff.

  • Outreach and Representative: Fields requests and inquiries regarding department representation across campus, including general representation and presentations, resource tables, panels, department tours, etc.  Serves as representative and point of contact for media inquiries and public questions and coordinates plan for responses.  Provides department information and updates for campus publications, stories, videos, etc.

    Coordinates with creative groups in the development of effective marketing materials.  Serves as part of the DSA Committees and other groups as appointed.

  • Oversight and Supervision: Manages and coordinates long-range planning needs for projects, activities, and events.  Supervises communications student employees. Assigns and manages projects through their completion.  Oversees the selection, orientation, and assignment of the student public relations officers, as well as coordinates associated requests, tours, presentations, panels, events, etc.

  • Assessment and Research: Researches and remains up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices. Monitors analytics and creates reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns and strategies.

  • Budgeting: Manages and analyzes budget to ensure expenditures do not exceed allotted budget.  Conducts monthly reviews to ensure and forecast marketing needs to remain within the budget line item. Performs other duties as assigned.
