Purpose

The Communications Specialist, under general supervision, is assigned to perform various communications duties for the Department of Aerospace Engineering. The position is primarily responsible for serving as a communications liaison supporting the strategic communication plan for the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Write news feature stories highlighting the faculty, alumni, students, and research in the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
  • Be proactive in seeking out news stories from faculty, alumni, and students in collaboration with the Department Head’s office.   Help the DH office to strategize to obtain more timely news stories.
  • Report to the DH office every quarter which news did better on our page and social media.
  • Promote departmental special events, programs, and calls for award nominations.
  • Manage the department’s social media presence.
  • Coordinate the production of print material and electronic communications to support the goals of the department through collaboration with Engineering Communications.
  • Utilize a project management tracking system for all project requests.
  • Provide front-facing customer support on communications-related needs and collaborate with support teams in Engineering Communications to fulfill those requests.
  • Be available to attend and report on special events like capstone design flight days or when research facilities are being inaugurated.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we need:

Minimum qualifications for Communications Specialist II:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of related experience

Minimum qualifications for Communications Specialist III:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Four years of related experience

What is helpful:

  • Experience in communications, content creation, journalism, public relations, and/or marketing.
  • Experience in communications, writing content for journalistic or publications news.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of writing and how to tailor writing style for various audiences and specific outlets.
  • Understanding of AP style.
  • Ability to edit for grammar, clarity, organization, style, and consistency.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work collaboratively with others.
  • Demonstrated ability working under deadlines.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Work Location:

  • Main Campus – College Station, TX.
  • Some positions may have potential for a flexible work schedule or location.
