About the Opportunity

Temporary part-time cataloging position at Northeastern University Library – Boston, MA.

The Northeastern University Library is seeking a MARC cataloger for a part-time position reviewing and enriching MARC records for print theses and dissertations and assigning full LC classification.  Depending on skill level, this position may also perform original cataloging, subject analysis, and/or bibliographic maintenance for other print and electronic monograph collections. The position requires experience working in MARC, and knowledge of RDA, LCCN, LCSH, and name authorities. Familiarity with MarcEdit and integrated library systems is a plus. For original cataloging work, experience with RDA, LCCN, LCSH, and name authorities in required; familiarity with OCLC Connexion preferred.

  • Hours: 8-10 hours a week. Hours can be flexible, but must fall between 8am and 4pm Monday-Friday. Some remote work allowed.

  • Pay rate: $22-25 per hour

Qualifications:

  • An ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS or enrollment in an ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS program or equivalent

  • Experience with creating and editing MARC records

  • Knowledge of RDA, LCCN, LCSH and name authorities

  • Attention to detail, and reliable problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to work independently

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
