Facilities Services supports the mission of the University of Chicago through efforts to maintain and enhance the University campus and environment and provide superior client service to our community including faculty, students, staff, neighbors and visitors.

Job Information
 

Responsibilities:

  • Generate preliminary design analysis and solutions for a wide range of landscape and campus environment projects.

  • Assist in the management of small landscape planning and design projects and support large multi-campus environment and institutional planning initiatives.

  • Assist in developing landscape and campus environment design guidelines and in maintaining the exterior wayfinding signage program and other exterior signage requests.

  • Assist in analyzing and maintaining GIS data.  Perform spatial analysis that may include data layer merging and the use of spatial databases.

  • Support master planning and capital planning efforts with spatial and data analysis, zoning concepts and processes.

  • Manage data associated with the University’s planned development ordinances.

  • Support the Department in pre-project and project planning activities including presentation to management levels.

  • Assist in the coordination and synthesis of historic and cultural status, sustainability opportunities, infrastructure, deferred maintenance, program and functional requirements, and other relevant data related to the campus environment.

  • Assist in evaluating the campus environment from a variety of stewardship perspectives.

  • Develop innovative solutions in the planning, design and landscape construction processes of both international projects and on campus projects with international centers and partners.



    Additional Requirements ​​
     

    Education, Experience or Certification:

    Education:

    • Experience within a higher education institution master planning required.

    • Master’s degree in landscape architecture and/or urban design.

    Experience:

    • A minimum of two years of international experience in professional landscape, planning, and/or urban design activities required.

    Technical Knowledge or Skills:

    • Zoning concepts and processes

    • Project presentation to management levels of a complex, multi-campus institutional organization

    • Education or experience must include: 2D and 3D modelling

    • AutoCAD

    • Revit

    • Sketch Up

    • Photoshop

    • Illustrator

    • InDesign 

    • ArcGIS
