POSITION DESCRIPTION

Minimum Education Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, or a related field.

Experience:

Required:

  • Work requires two years’ experience in report writing and data analytics.
  • Hands-on experience with various Business Intelligence technologies.
  • Experience working with large data warehouses and data marts.
  • Experience required in data analysis and report development in a language such as SQL or similar experience in a leading,
  • recognized analytics toolset, such as Cognos, Tableau, Microsoft BI, Hyperion.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience translating end-user requirements into effective reporting solutions.
  • Understanding of data analytics methodology.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with various relational database design concepts including relational and dimensional.
  • Experience in a Higher Education environment working with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions data.
  • Experience eliciting end-user requirements.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining partnerships with internal and external (college, department) customers to understand
  • and prioritize their Business Intelligence needs, keeping our capabilities and constraints in mind.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Data Modeling and Data Architecture.
  • Basic understanding of row-level security in systems such as PeopleSoft and/or Tableau.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment developing creative data-drive solutions.
  • Ability to effectively document, review, and revise business and data processes (independently and collaboratively).
  • Ability to implement processes that ensure data quality and consistency.
  • Ability to identify and analyze data integrity issues with an aim toward continuous improvement.

Position Summary:

The staff of the Office of the University Registrar work as a unit to support the academic mission of the University. The incumbent in this position is an integral OUR team member and works to provide data to select members of the Duke community in support of administrative, research and/or educational activities.  The Business Intelligence Analyst will have detailed knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions including but not limited to analytics, data mining, data warehouse, reporting and visualization dashboards. This analyst will assist senior report writers to utilize a consistent architecture and deliver on business demands. The analyst will also support the enforcing of academic structure, BI, and data governance best practices within the academic community.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

Business Intelligence and Reporting (40%)

  • Use the BI infrastructure, source data, and toolsets to analyze, design, develop, test, and deliver prepared reports, queries, dashboards, or other appropriate medium meeting business requirements.
  • Assist with various data processing activities.
  • Assist with responses to ad-hoc data requests, using PeopleSoft query and other statistical software as needed, for information from campus constituencies by producing specialized reports, files, and other data as needed.
  • Remain current with industry trends within the business intelligence continuum.

Data Integration (35%)

  • Assist with the creation of extracts, webservices, and APIs available for upload into appropriate databases and applications in accurate and timely manner.
  • Uphold quality standards to ensure data quality and integrity across various databases and applications.
  • Work with analysts and business users to translate functional specifications into technical designs for implementation and deployment.
  • Ensure high quality and optimum performance of data integration systems in order to meet business objectives.

Data Integrity (20%)

  • Adhere to data integrity strategy and best practices, both institution- and industry-wide.
  • Participate in operational meetings and support appropriate reporting solutions.
  • Perform functional testing, as advised, to ensure the completeness and accuracy of data.

Miscellaneous Duties (5%)

  • Assist in PeopleSoft upgrade and performance testing.
  • Assist in Tableau server testing.
  • Edit current procedure documents that reflect tasks performed and data processing operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

Work requires a Bachelor's degree.


Experience

3 years combined business/work analyst, software QA, or user OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. support/training experience,
