Business Operations Specialist


Job Description

The Business Services division of the College of Nursing & Health Innovation is seeking a
Business Operations Specialist. Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Business
Services, the Business Operations Specialist assists with planning, organizing and
coordinating the business operations functions in accordance with established goals,
priorities and time and funding limitations. These functions include basic budgeting,
accounting, payroll administration, staffing, academic/research services and other functions
as designated.

Salary Range

$42,000 - $56,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Monitors a variety of account revenues and expenditures, maintains and reconciles detailed budgets for various detailed budgets for various accounts, advises and/or determines which expenditures are within budget guidelines, informs management of irregularities and proceeds with corrective action
  • Prepares budget forecasts and monitors revenues/expenditures within budget allocations
  • Recommends/advises on appropriate resources needed for successful program implementation
  • Processes expense reimbursements and processes payments to outside suppliers through ASU’s purchasing card, SunRise and other purchasing mechanisms
  • Performs all activities associated with the Department Time Administrator role to ensure accurate and timely recording of time for staff/students
  • Organizes and prepares departmental administrative and financial reports; analyzes, summarizes and interprets information and recommends potential action
  • Responds to audit requests and gathers documentation for payroll, purchasing cards and other financial records; also performs payroll, p-card and account reconciliations
  • Represents the business services office if necessary at meetings internally and throughout ASU
  • Interacts and maintains relationships with students, faculty and staff throughout the College to meet office objectives; ensures a high level of confidentiality when needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Seven (7) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic principles, practices and methods of budgeting, accounting and inventory management
  • Experience performing and creating detailed and complex numerical computations and reports, including analysis and evaluation of budgetary information
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Evidence of effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience in adjusting to changing priorities and growing responsibilities
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
  • Experience using purchasing cards, monitoring/reconciling expenses and responding to audits
  • Experience using the WorkDay financial system
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU’s HR and financial policies and procedures

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or
  • are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions
