Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, Custom Programs at Harvard Business School, this position is a key role on the Custom Programs Business Development team: functioning as a clearinghouse for all new leads, driving sales enablement, producing business development metrics and reports, and supporting new client acquisition and revenue goals. The role also collaborates closely with the Director of Business Development to evaluate existing processes and implement new methods to increase operational efficiency.


Position Description

Responsibilities Include:
Inbound Sales Management:

  • Manage and track all inbound leads, including entering information into Salesforce
  • Exercise judgment to decide which opportunities to move into the pipeline for pursuit
  • Decide which opportunities to refer to other HBS groups or Harvard schools and make referrals with appropriate context and background
  • Conduct calls with prospects as needed
Outbound Sales:
  • Work with the Director to identify and rank potential organizations to target for pursuit based on specific criteria including alignment to the HBS mission and Executive Education’s strategic goals
  • Identify contacts at each organization for outreach, and conduct initial outreach as needed, in coordination with other stakeholders within HBS In collaboration with the business development team and Marketing department, develop outbound sales marketing and sales tools.
Sales Enablement & Research Conduct:
  • Conduct client research and client call preparation, and serve as the internal Center of Excellence for industry and client research
  • Curate and maintain a library of Custom sales tools (proposal templates, session descriptions, topic descriptions, testimonials, creative for proposals, etc.)
  • Function as the key internal expert on Salesforce and primary liaison with ExEd IT Salesforce team
Business Development Metrics:
  • Manage Custom revenue for new business opportunities, including maintaining revenue projections in Salesforce
  • Generate, analyze, and communicate business development metrics and reports, including for monthly, annual, and ad hoc reports and meetings
  • In collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director of Business Develop, generate and track Custom performance against target revenues
Stakeholder & Other Business Development Support

 :

  • Set up business development meetings and campus visits; lead and join those meetings as needed
  • Lead tours for prospective clients
  • Collaborate on and draft initial client proposals and presentations
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across HBS—ExEd (particularly Open Enrollment and Marketing & Sales), HBP Corporate Learning, HBS Online—on internal and client-facing engagements and projects.

This role is also responsible for other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required 
  • 5+ years of professional experience required
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills required

  • Experience in both corporate and higher education settings preferred.
  • Must have outstanding communication and organizational skills.
  • Requires a team player with an eye for detail and skills to collaborate with multiple teams with shared accountability in a fast-paced, high-energy, often ambiguous, environment.
  • Must be self-directed, take initiative, and be proactive and resourceful in problem solving.
  • Client focused, with proven ability to develop trusting working relationships with colleagues and business partners with high expectations.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce strongly preferred.

Additional Information

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus 3 days per week. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.

This is a 40 hours/week, overtime-eligible position
