The Texas A&M Institute for Preclinical Studies (TIPS) was formally established by the Board of Regents as an institute within Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas on May 25, 2007 to serve the preclinical needs of academic researchers and industry. TIPS reports administratively to the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Texas A&M University has a longstanding reputation as a leader in higher education and research. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Three years of related experience in general office, accounting, or personnel operations

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications

  • Interpersonal and communication skills

  • Planning and organizational skills

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of standard office equipment and personal computers

  • Must not have inhibiting allergies to animals

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Five years' experience with the preferred education, including task management experience

  • Preferred experience with FMO (Financial Management Operations)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software programs

  • Good planning and organizational skills

Preferred Other Factors:

  • Knowledge of iPayments, AggieBuy, and Canopy

Responsibilities:

  • Business Support: Reviews, approves and provides back up for signing vouchers and requisitions. Audits and submits orders and invoices in AggieBuy for processing. Reviews and audits reconciliations of accounts. Assists in developing, monitoring, and reporting  accounts and departmental budget data as directed by supervisor. Plans, develops, implements, coordinates, and monitors programs or services. Provides input and assists in developing policies, procedures, and guidelines. Assists in coordination of annual fiscal year closing activities. Coordinates fiscal activities. Communicates cash handling procedures, audits and approves cash handling activities, and coordinates unit purchasing activities.  Uses iPayments to invoice customers. Responds to inquiries from customers, vendors, and Financial Management Operations (FMO) Department. Proposes solutions to routine financial problems. Coordinates the timely and accurate billing of projects. Coordinates routine fiscal budget activities. Processes departmental deposits, assists with the annual rate study, and maintains electronic business files.

  • Reporting: Develops financial and statistical analysis and summary reports for the Business Administrator. Prepares complex monthly and annual financial reports. Develops some complex financial and statistical analyses and summary reports as requested by supervisor.

  • Rules and Procedures: Responsible for knowledge and comprehension of policies, rules, and regulations including the disbursement rules and procedures for Texas A&M University, Agrilife Research, and Texas A&M Foundation funds. Responsible for communicating relevant compliance and procedure information to customers. Provides input and assists in developing policies and procedures. Trains staff on new and existing business procedures, and provides policies and regulations to staff.  Performs other duties as assigned.
