The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) includes the Small Animal Hospital http://vethospital.tamu.edu/small-animal-hospital and the Large Animal Hospital http://vethospital.tamu.edu/large-animal-hospital , both of which are dedicated to the total well-being and care of a pet throughout its lifetime.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) includes the Small Animal and Large Animal Hospitals and is the only veterinary teaching hospital in the state of Texas! We are looking for a Business Administrator  II, to join the Finance team at VMTH. The ideal candidate is responsible for supporting the efficient operation of the VMTH purchasing and finance team, while providing clear communications with our teams in the hospital.  The selected candidate will subscribe to and support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability as stated above. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Six years of related experience in general office, accounting, or personnel operations

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Six years of related experience in Aggiebuy, Lascerfiche, Concur, iPayments, TAMU Foundation, Cross-Training, and/or Data Warehouse

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of financial reporting including utilization of the Data Warehouse at TAMU for analytics

Responsibilities:

  • Fiscal Administration - Provides managerial expertise for hospital administration and advises on financial and budgetary matters to hospital leadership. Participates in the preparation of annual budgets, budget changes, fiscal transfers, and oversees fiscal year end closing procedures. Serves as an approver and back-up signer of vouchers and requisitions. Reviews and approves account reconciliations of hospital accounts. Monitors and controls hospital service units’ expenditure plans to ensure the service units are within their budget guidelines and makes projections. Resolves operational and procedural financial problems. Prepares and analyzes business reports. Serves as a liaison to University Financial Management Operations department, FAMIS, and Purchasing. Oversees/approves Hospital expenditures including vouchers and requisitions, returns of supplies, travel reimbursement, expense reallocations, and capital equipment procurement. Develops and approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals. Coordinates and evaluates business function, division, or department activities.
  • Supervision - Supervises the daily efforts of the Business Coordinators within the finance department. Conducts periodic performance evaluations and annual evaluations of all position descriptions. Coordinate’s recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of all new staff. Reviews and approves all time sheets and leave requests. Works with Hospital Administration and other supervisors on personnel matters affecting morale and job efficiency. Ensures the service area adheres to university policies and procedures. Arranges and provides professional development programs for new and current staff and student workers.
  • Training and Compliance - Oversees training of business staff. Identifies business-related needs and problems and proposes solutions. Implements and audits business procedures and trains staff on new and existing procedures. Develops and recommends policies, procedures, and guidelines. Interprets System policies and regulations and University rules regarding financial operations of the Hospital financial activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
