The Marcus Institute for Brain Health (MIBH) is an interdisciplinary clinical care and research institute for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and associated physical and psychological health conditions such as post-traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety. The MIBH is part of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU AMC) which is the largest academic health center in the Rocky Mountain region and is located in Aurora, Colorado. Aurora is Colorado’s second largest and most diverse city, home to a significant population of refugees.
The MIBH provides specialized care for people with mild to moderate TBI, with a primary focus on the provision of subspecialty clinical services for military Veterans of pre- and post-911 era, regardless of discharge status, with mild to moderate TBI who have persistent posttraumatic symptoms. The MIBH provides comprehensive interdisciplinary intensive outpatient evaluation and treatment integrating novel medical, and complementary-alternative treatment modalities. This position will work entirely within the MIBH but will be assigned to an appropriate academic home department within the CU AMC.
The MIBH currently seeks a full-time Behavioral Health clinician who will work within an interdisciplinary team setting. The position will provide behavioral health (BH) assessments to identify patients’ level of psychological function and treatment planning needs. This position will provide education and trauma psychotherapy addressing a wide range of behavioral and social needs of patients. The position must adhere to the State of Colorado Code of Ethics for his/her relevant discipline. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Conducting individual and group therapy as well as family work as part of an interdisciplinary team treatment
- Conducting BH evaluations and communicating results both to the interdisciplinary team and the patient in a professional manner
- Making recommendations to the interdisciplinary team regarding patients’ physical and psychological needs
- Building relationships with patients that foster early communication of risky situations to allow for preventative interventions
- Working independently and with an interdisciplinary team to implement a treatment plan and adjust it according to clinical needs of the patient
- Preparing appropriate documentation in a timely manner including: evaluations, progress notes, treatment plans, and charges
- Assist in developing program processes, policies and procedures, and best-practices
The clinician must have knowledge of human development and psychological theory as it relates to traumatic brain injuries, PTS, human behavior, and addiction. S/he should have an understanding of traumatic brain injuries and their impact on physical and psychological states and relationships, and should possess relationship-building skills across a diverse range of cultural settings. The individual in this position will demonstrate knowledge of and have direct experience in neurotrauma, pain management, sleep health, and rehabilitation services, philosophy, and practice.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Clinical skill in flexibly conducting psychotherapy interventions with complex patients to address individual needs on a daily basis
- Clinical skill in conducting brief and targeted assessments to provide psychotherapy interventions, health and behavior change, substance use treatment, and triage for appropriate level of care
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
- Ability to maintain a positive and cooperative attitude
- Ability to organize and prioritize with minimal direction and maintain a well-organized work environment
- Ability to problem-solve, use good judgement, and work with diverse and difficult personalities
- Ability to search and critically review best evidence to guide clinical decision making and effectively share knowledge with colleagues as well as communicate relevant findings in appropriate language to the general public

- Current knowledge of or willingness to learn about military culture
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer skills including the ability to work with a variety of applications
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:
Instructor $85,000 - $110,000
Sr. Instructor $85,000 - $110,000
Assistant Professor $85,000 - $110,000
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

- Masters’ Degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology or Counseling
- Colorado licensure in their discipline or ability to obtain licensure

- 3 years direct experience in evidence-supported clinical trauma resolution techniques such as EMDR, PE, CPT, or Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
