About the Opportunity:

The Psychology Department at Northeastern University (www.northeastern.edu/cos/psychology/ ) invites applications for a Full-time Non-tenured Track Assistant Teaching Professor position to start Fall 2024. This is a one-year appointment, which can be renewable.

Responsibilities:

The selected individual will have two main sets of responsibilities. The first set of responsibilities is to teach undergraduate courses offered by the Psychology Department. The number of courses to be taught each year, and the topic areas of the courses will be determined by the department chair, taking into account the individual’s area of expertise and departmental need. The second set of responsibilities is to provide support for all aspects of the undergraduate program, working closely with the department’s Head Advisor and Director of Undergraduate Studies. Specific activities will include, for example, advising students, providing administrative support for registration and course approval processes, and helping to organize welcome days for prospective students, new student orientations, and graduation ceremonies.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology and college level teaching experience required.
  • The successful candidate will generally be available to participate in such activities when scheduled on evenings and weekends.

Teaching statement:

Please summarize your past instructional and mentorship experiences, your pedagogical philosophy, your plans/goals for teaching in the College of Science (including existing and proposed courses), and your strategies for teaching and mentoring a diverse cohort of graduate students.

Diversity statement:

Please provide a statement describing a time when you altered or changed your approach to research, teaching, or service because of the diversity of the group you were working with or your awareness of marginalized populations. What changes did you make, and what did you learn from this situation? We are interested in how you respond to such situations, not the identities of the people involved, so please only disclose what you are comfortable with. Your statement should demonstrate an understanding of the barriers facing individuals from groups marginalized in your field and be in alignment with Northeastern’s mission to reflect the diversity of the societies in which it maintains campuses and to meet the educational needs and interests of its diverse population. Some faculty candidates may not have substantial past experience. If that is the case, we recommend focusing in your statement on the types of activities you think could be useful.
