The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah seeks candidates who can be world-class leaders in computer engineering with a particular emphasis on open-source analog, digital and mixed signal hardware design, hardware accelerator design, open-source electronic design automation (EDA), machine-learning-based EDA, hardware security, generative AI technologies for EDA, to fill an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, although exceptional candidates will be considered at other ranks. The ECE Department has strong programs in Solid State/MEMS/Circuits, Systems and Signal Processing, Computer Engineering, EM/Optics, and Power Systems and Control. We have established a world-leading effort in open-source hardware and EDA and are focused on further strengthening this area. Exceptional candidates with expertise in related areas, as well as outstanding candidates in any area, are encouraged to apply. We seek individuals who demonstrate exceptional potential for or evidence of leading a high-impact, world-class funded research program training PhD students over decades. All candidates must have strong aptitude for effective teaching in core and specialized areas of our curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty responsibilities include developing and maintaining an internationally recognized research program, effective classroom teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service within the University and within professional communities.
Our goal is for these hires is for the combination of new hires and existing faculty to form a world-known leading topical area. To this end, we welcome both individual applications as well as coordinated applications from two or more individuals. An example includes but is not limited to existing collaborators for whom colocation would further enhance research efforts. To this end, ALL applicants must include in the cover letter their vision for how their expertise would interact with specific existing faculty, specific other applicants, and/or profiles of potential new hires in order to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

Applicants must hold a PhD in ECE or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment.
