Job Description

A fixed-term, non-tenure track faculty position, the Instruction & Online Learning Librarian participates in the library’s information literacy program and provides support for faculty and students in the University’s online programs. The Instruction & Online Learning Librarian is a member of the Research & Assessment department. This individual will teach and promote the library’s instructional program and raise awareness of library services and resources for online, hybrid, and remote students and faculty.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver effective and inclusive online instructional plans and resources, using accessibility guidelines and principles, best practices in critical pedagogy, and relevant library and higher education standards.
  • Gather data to assess the quality and impact of online instruction services.
  • Raise awareness and increase use of library services and resources among online, hybrid, and/or remote students and faculty.
  • Teach and promote the library’s instructional program based on goals and strategies derived from professional library standards and frameworks for information literacy.
  • Collaborate with others and work individually to produce and maintain a variety of informational and instructional materials such as online tutorials and reference guides.
  • Participate in teaching in-person information literacy instruction.
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to promote and integrate information literacy.
  • Conduct research consultations.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Graduate School, Instructional Technology, and other departments.
  • Maintain knowledge of and engage in continuous professional development to keep up with trends in information literacy.
  • Serve as a subject/discipline liaison to one or more departments/colleges.
  • Attend meetings, participate in special projects, and serve on committees relating to the library, the University, and consortia.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education – Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Evidence of professional librarian experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience – One year of related experience.
  • Experience designing and administering information literacy instruction and incorporating best pedagogical approaches to information literacy both in-person and virtually.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging trends in librarianship, specifically information literacy instruction and collection resources designed to support assigned liaison areas.
  • Experience or familiarity with:
    • Media creation (video, audio, and visual)
    • Learning Management Systems (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc.)
    • Open educational resources (OER)

Knowledge and Abilities   

Knowledge of:

  • Information literacy practices, including familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.

Ability to:

  • Plan, organize and manage responsibilities.
  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Communicate and interact effectively, orally, and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Conduct presentations and demonstrate research skills.

Other Requirements

  • Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. By Texas A&M University System policy, the initial appointment is up to three years and is renewable thereafter for up to five years for each appointment extension.  This position requires an on-campus presence for a full 40-hours a week, and the work schedule will vary, as deemed necessary by the Director of Killam Library.

Starting salary: $52,000
