Who we are   

The Office of Undergraduate Recruitment handles freshman, transfer, international, and other prospective students who wish to apply to Texas A&M University. The office is also responsible for recruiting and enrollment an academically prepared student body geographically, ethnically, and economically diverse. In addition, Undergraduate Recruitment also offers several opportunities for prospective students and their families to visit campus throughout the year to learn about the rich traditions and culture of Texas A&M University.  

What we want

The Assistant Director of Recruitment is responsible for developing, executing, and managing a recruitment strategy to include: coordinating and implementing recruitment programs and events, supervising on-campus Regional Advisor positions and Regional Advisor positions off-campus, involved in identifying, recruiting and contributing to increasing the population of admitted and enrolled high-achieving students, as well as overseeing student and parent social engagement sites for recruitment and matriculation. Includes serving as an information resource and back-up to the Associate Director or Director and managing recruitment and training programs.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Six years of progressively responsible experience in a professional or administrative capacity in admissions recruitment/advising, including some supervisory experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have knowledge and experience with automated systems and data processing.

  • Knowledge of current federal and state regulations on student recruitment.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, motivate fellow employees and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and customer service orientation.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree.

  • Experience in higher education and knowledge of policies and procedures governing Admissions, preferably at Texas A&M University.

  • Experience developing and delivering staff training, coaching, and mentoring.

  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures and using a proactive team approach to continuous improvement.

  • Experience developing and implementing methods and practices that ensure a multicultural environment and student body.

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to speak Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership - Oversees training of recruitment personnel and coordinates staff development training and scheduling. Mentors, assists, and trains new staff as they are hired and as new rules, regulations, procedures, and programs are implemented. Communicates effectively to ensure smooth operations. Ensures development opportunities are available for professional growth of employees. Provides objective and timely feedback to employees, including but not limited to, probationary and annual performance evaluation. Assists with managing student/parent social media platforms. Represents Texas A&M at regional, state, or national conferences or meetings as required. Provides strategic direction to underrepresented students in effort to develop new markets and work with local education entities to develop future opportunities. Serves as chair of office committee and represents recruitment advisors in staff meetings. Oversees staff in Austin, College Station, El Paso and several cities across the United States. Travels to locations for site visits, programs, meetings, etc. This requires the use of a University or personal vehicle.

  • Program Management - Is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing effective programs for the recruitment of high-academic achieving and underrepresented students both on and off-campus. Oversees high school visits and TACRAO programs. Coordinates the effort to increase the number of underrepresented students transferring to Texas A&M. Coordinates with academic departments to ensure goals are met for high-impact programs designed to recruit students. Collaborates with on-campus departments for individual or group visits. Collaborates with departmental staff for publications, communications and dissemination of information. Evaluates and assesses all related programs and initiatives to ensure goals are being met. Provides outreach services to students. Serves as university representative and liaison to high school administrators, counselors, businesses, community colleges, community groups, and other strategic partners.

  • Recruitment & Matriculation - Coordinates counseling and recruitment of prospective students about admissions requirements, policies, status, and office programs. Oversees and supports regional staff to ensure recruitment and matriculation programs meet established goals and objectives. Coordinates with Scholarships & Financial Aid Office on selection and awarding of academic scholarships; disseminates financial aid information to highlight the value proposition of attending Texas A&M. Develops communication plans and strategies to reach high-achieving prospective students. Develops tools to assist in the tracking of interested prospects. Works directly with applicants and their parents to resolve extenuating circumstances, complaints, appeals, and options for admissions denials. Maintains record of these activities. Ensures and enhances customer service and satisfaction. Maintains a high-level working knowledge of university information, organization, opportunity, and policies. Represents Recruitment in public speaking capacity. Maintains records of these activities. Maintains a basic level of knowledge concerning admissions processing. Keeps current on relevant issues affecting admissions in the state and nation. Uses Compass/Banner, SLATE, AIS, and TAMUDocs for tracking and managing student information.

  • Administration - Assists the Senior Associate Director and Director with departmental policies and procedures and implements identified strategic priorities. Manages team of recruiters and their activities to ensure compliance with university and departmental goals. Coordinates with data team to analyze market trends and conducts data analysis to ensure effectiveness of programs and efforts. Makes recommendations to Director on new initiatives or possible improvements. Performs other duties as assigned.
