Job Summary:

The Associate Director is responsible for collaborating closely with the Office of Medical Education (OME) Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration and SOM IT leadership to manage information technology solutions for the Office of Medical Education. The position will recommend IT strategy, have responsibility for fiscal and/or human resources and have the authority to act on the Assistant Dean’s behalf.

The Associate Director of Education Technology in the OME is responsible to lead the design and delivery of undergraduate medical education (UME) education technology services, oversee the UME educational technology staff and provides strategic vision for UME education technology to support the mission of the UME. Additionally, the Assistant Director in collaboration with SOM-IT will work with the directors in other OME units – Office of Research Education (ORE), Center for Advancing Professional Excellence (CAPE), Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Graduate Medical Education (GME) – to strategize and implement educational technology to support their missions. The Assistant Director keeps apprised of emerging technologies and develops and leads the team to successfully implement technology solutions. The Assistant Director will work closely with the IT teams across the Anschutz campus and the School of Medicine to align with the university’s educational technology goals with the requirements to procure, implement, and maintain educational technology for the Office of Medical Education. The Assistant Director will evaluate technology solutions on an ROI basis and will strategically prioritize limited technology resources. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the development and direction of OME’s education technology strategy and manage the roadmap.
  • Leverage current and emerging education technologies, tools, and services to support high-quality learner experiences and improve internal business processes.
    • Applications include, but are not limited to, Customer Relationship Management, Admissions, Registration and Payment, Student Information Systems, Learning Management Systems, Education Technology, Customer Support, Content Management and E-Commerce Systems, Preceptor and Affiliate Agreement Database, and reporting dashboards.
  • Facilitate productive collaboration and communication between technology teams, academic units, and business teams.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and student stakeholders, to understand the ways in which technology will support curriculum delivery, student support, and business needs and integrate those needs into technology roadmaps as appropriate.
  • Develop the annual OME Education Technology budget, in collaboration with OME Business Services, in preparation for presentation/justification to the Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration.
  • Prepare ROI analysis on new project requests submitted by education technology stakeholders and recommend appropriate action to the Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration and the Senior Associate Dean for Education.
  • Monitor monthly budget to actual expenditures throughout the fiscal year.
  • Consult with Risk and Compliance (RAC) and OME Business Services to ensure optimal procurement of Education Technology software. 

Supervision Received:

Reports directly to the OME Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration.

Supervision Exercised:

This position will have between 6-10 professional, exempt full-time direct reports.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Director

  • A bachelor’s degree in education technology, computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 7+ years of demonstrable and progressive educational technology team leadership 

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education technology, computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in academic (higher education) technology or education technology
  • Prior experience working in a health sciences university.
  • Prior experience developing and deploying educational technology strategies and roadmaps.
  • Experience successfully implementing and deploying learning management systems.
  • Expertise with programming language, helpful.

  • Knowledge of data compliance laws and standards. (PII, PCI, GDPR, FERPA, HIPAA, COPA, etc.)

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $93,435 - $118,850.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
