The Assistant Director of the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) is responsible for a wide range of administrative tasks and support functions, including planning, directing, coordinating, budgeting, managing and reporting activities. Coordinates and oversees Institute events and publications. Coordinates the orientation, research progress, and daily activities for United States Army War College Fellows in residence at SIIA. Participates in planning, directing, and coordinating of operational or procedural matters to meet department goals and objectives. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Six years of administration and/or management experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Will be required to work late on nights where there are speakers or other events

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in managing grant and awards programs

  • Experience in writing press briefings

  • Experience in promoting events and publications

  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of mass mailings for promotional events

Responsibilities:

  • Administration - Recruits guest lecturers and other subject matter experts within the Bush School, Texas A&M University, and elsewhere to support the teaching mission and give students the opportunity to hear from leading experts in the field. Supports the Director of Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) in the program’s policy research mission. Supports and reports back the Director of SIIA to ensure the programs and events are aligned with strategic vision and goals. Represents SIIA in Executive Committee meetings and other College level administrative meetings, when the Director is unavailable.  Participates in developing and managing strategic plan for the Institute. Assists External Relations with SIIA public relations.  Completes special projects for Director.

  • Supervision - Oversees the Institute’s Administrative Coordinator (II) who is responsible for the publication of Scowcroft books, articles, and white papers. Coordinates the orientation, research program, and daily activities for United States Army War College Fellows in residence at SIIA.  

  • Budgetary - Designs and manages the budget for SIIA. Performs fiscal activities and manages daily operations. Oversees payroll, purchasing, and travel. Assigns and monitors the work flow of accounting and administrative staff that supports the operations of the Institute. Writes grant and/or contract proposals for submission to federal and state agencies, Texas A&M University research funds or to Foundations to fund Scowcroft Institute projects.

  • Communications - Manages the content of the SIIA website and social media. Manages press briefings. Manages the drafting of the annual White Paper and other policy documents, books, and articles on pandemic preparedness. Performs other duties as assigned.
