Job Description

Purpose:

The Machinist II fabricates, maintains, and repairs metal parts, tools, and equipment. Serves as leader and performs fabrication, maintenance, and repairs on metal objects through the operation of lathes, shapers, milling machines, drill presses, and related precision tools and equipment; dismantles, repairs, and assembles such machines and equipment as pumps, electrical motors, generators, steam heaters, boilers, turbines, valves, and air compressors; pours and bores babbit bearings; machines cylinders, piston rods, bushings, axles, shafts, bolts, and bearings; performs repair and maintenance work on hydraulic systems of heavy equipment such as load packer and hydraulic pumps; performs welding work on tools and equipment; occasionally operates woodworking machines such as hand saw, jointer, and planer in making wooden parts or objects needed in machine work; and performs related duties as required.

Responsibilities:

• Fabricates, maintains, and repairs metal objects utilizing lathes, shapers, milling machines, drill presses, and related precision tools and equipment; dismantles, repairs, and assembles such machines and equipment as pumps, electric motors, generators, steam turbines, boilers, valves, and air compressors; pours and bores babbit bearings; machines cylinders, piston rods, bushings, axles, shafts, bolts, and bearings.
• Performs welding work on tools and equipment; occasionally operates woodworking machines such as a hand saw, jointer, and planer in making wooden parts or objects needed in machine work
• Assist the NSC Research Engineering staff in the design of machined parts for reactor experiments, systems, and components
• Maintains existing shop equipment and guides the selection of new or replacement equipment to support the ongoing operations and research of the NSC. Trains and monitors student technicians in the operation of shop equipment.
• Performs all others duties as assigned.

What we need:

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five years of related experience.

• Main Campus – College Station, TX.

The Nuclear Engineering and Science Center seeks to improve the health, wellbeing and environment of mankind through the application of nuclear technology. The center provides services to researchers and/or faculty from Texas A&M University, other colleges and universities, government agencies and private industry.
