The Assistant Director/EEO Officer is responsible for assisting the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources in managing all aspects of human resource administration, with primary focus on equal employment opportunity, employee relations, reporting and compliance with federal and state employment laws and TAMUS employment-related policies and procedures.  Occasional travel is required.

*The potential salary for this position ranges from $64, 611 to $70,000 per year, and is contingent on the applicants previous experience and/or qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates and oversees of all activities related to recruiting, selecting, screening and processing all staff, faculty, student and other university employees ensuring compliance with federal and state equal employment opportunity legislation and A&M System and university policies, regulations, practices and rules. 

  • Communicates with and directs hiring managers when non-compliance is found.  Initiates criminal history background checks on approved new hires, promotions and transfers, verifies selective service and education.

  • Supervisors, hires, trains, coaches and evaluates the performance of the talent acquisition staff.  Oversees and approves actions in the HRIS System or related systems.  Resolves and troubleshoots escalated and complex problems.

  • Provides guidance and direction to managers and supervisors in dealing with employee relations issues.  Investigates employee complaints or workplace concerns and recommends possible resolutions

  • Assists the Assistant Vice President – Human Resources in planning, organizing and directing the day-to-day operations and administration of the Human Resources/Payroll Department. 

  • Provides staff development in recruiting, talent management and other areas as needed.

  • Develops and implements the university’s Affirmative Action Plan

  • Monitors compliance with the initial and required annual performance reviews for non-faculty employees.

  • Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University, and job-specific on-line training courses.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Six years of related human resources and supervisory experience.

  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations, especially those relating to affirmative action and equal employment opportunity. 

  • Effective counseling, listening and conflict resolution skills. 

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

  • The ability to relate tactfully and sensitively to persons of diverse backgrounds and ability levels. 

  • This is a security-sensitive position. The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations.  The individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with A&M System policy and is further required to complete HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable timeframe after the individual’s employment, and on an as-needed basis thereafter. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree

  • Experience with investigations of employee complaints and/or disputes, as well as Affirmative Action/EEO responsibilities

  • SHRM Certification – Professional of Human Resources (PHR)

  • Workday experience.
