What We Want

The Assistant Director for Industry Engagement leads, develops, and innovates TAMIDS programs and activities with Industry (including non-profits and National Labs), and acts as TAMIDS primary representative for engaging external and internal partners in this area. Amongst current programs, the Assistant Director will lead TAMIDS Industry Affiliates program, including recruitment of new affiliates. They will oversee the connection of affiliates with TAMIDS network of programs and participants for student engagement, faculty research, and professional education / workforce development. They will coordinate these activities with internal stakeholders including academic units and the Texas A&M Foundation. The Assistant Director will act as lead industry outreach for the Data Science Capstone and coordinate project and sponsor acquisition with relevant academic staff and administrative units. Beyond overseeing these programs, the Assistant Director will develop strategy and implementation plans for further engagement of TAMIDS with industry and national labs and coordinate their participation of funded TAMIDS research activities as a sponsor or collaborator.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field

  • Six years of experience in area related to engagements between universities and industry

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional initiative, resourcefulness, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to coordinate multiple organizations around common goal

  • Ability to engage with stakeholders at senior level

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and remote conferencing applications

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to comfortably speak to large groups

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, science, business, or related area

  • Five or more years of experience in universities, in a position involving industry relations, outreach, and/or development

  • Five or more years of experience in industry in a position involving interaction or partnerships with universities

  • Experience in program management

  • Experience developing and managing collaborations between organizations

  • Experience working in STEM-oriented programs

  • Experience in developing proposals for program funding

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of intellectual property agreements and processes (e.g., patent, copyright, trademark, service mark, trade secret, confidentiality agreements, sponsored research agreements, material transfer agreements, technology licenses, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership, Development & Management- Works with the TAMIDS Director to develop strategy for industry engagement (including national labs here and below). Leads and manages TAMIDS industry engagements; develops initiatives and activities between TAMIDS and industry partners. Represents TAMIDS in program planning with collaborating partners and operational, delivery, and administrative organizations. Coordinates program operations with supporting TAMIDS staff, collaborators, and organizational partners. Develops reports and analysis on TAMIDS status, activities, initiatives, and opportunities with industry. Oversees creation and implementation of participant and program surveys and assessments of outcomes.

  • External Relations and Outreach- Represents TAMIDS externally and acts as lead point of contact with industry. Pursues, recruits, and visits prospective industry partners to represent TAMIDS and its vision for collaboration. Seeks opportunities for industrial participation in TAMIDS research, education, student, and workforce development programs. Organizes online and on-campus events for industrial outreach and coordinates TAMIDS presence in similar external events. Develops presentations and oversees creation of publicity materials for industry partners. Maintains database of industry contacts including company interests, engagement opportunities, and financial contributions.

  • Internal Relations and Coordination- Coordinates TAMIDS external engagement activities with TAMU academic units, development, and program delivery organizations. Works with research development staff to identify funding opportunities relevant to industry engagement. Involves TAMIDS faculty affiliates in TAMIDS industry facing engagements.
