As part of the Texas A&M University Health Science Center, Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas was founded in 1905 and is a nationally recognized center for oral health sciences education, research, specialized patient care and continuing dental education.

Job Summary: The Assistant Dean, Finance is responsible for the financial operations of the college, performing advanced business management and administration.  The Assistant Dean for Finance assists and advises the Dean of the college in organizing, planning, and coordinating the business aspects of the college to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness.  This individual exercises extensive latitude in the use of the initiative and independent judgement and exhibits a high level of integrity and dependability.  Other responsibilities of this position include:  providing leadership and direction for college business management functions, budget requests and financial reporting and provides oversight of the purchasing/central stores/receiving areas of the school.

Required Education:

  • Master's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

  • Six years of related senior administrative experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration or Public Administration

Preferred Experience:

  • Eight years of relevant experience in a business setting, to include at least five years of related experience in an academic setting.
  • Three years of related academic administrative experience at TAMU or a comparable institution of higher education.

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to a wide variety of people at all levels of the organization.
  • High level of proficiency in a PC Windows environment and proficiency in use of Excel. 
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work as part of and academic team fulfilling the mission of the college in teaching, research, service and patient care.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High level of proficiency in the use of financial software and database tools to craft custom financial reports for use by Management.  Experience in government financial reporting. Experience in developing monthly financial and operational metrics to drive operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Representative:  Represents the college in communication with university system and agency financial counterparts.  Participates on councils, committees, task forces, and working groups of these organizations.  Works with counterpart at the university, agency and system levels in developing improved policies and procedures and improved accounting, statistical, support service and other systems as needed.  Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate Curriculum: Coordinate workflow with health education software; management of student schedules, documentation, evaluations and grades for UGME. Support to prepare and present (when applicable) for course activities, orientation, scheduling, clinical simulation, supplies, presentation materials and any other activities requested. Coordinates activities related to educational conferences, meetings, lectures, laboratory sessions, examinations and special events as directed by curriculum and leadership.
  • Reporting:  Oversees the preparation of complex financial reports for the college, including the American Dental Association annual report.  Assists with Legislative Appropriations Requests and Legislative Budget Board requests and reports.  Provides other financial reports requested by the Dean and TAMU/HSC administration.
  • Financial Operations and Advising:  Evaluates administrative and financial operations from a college perspective, and presents recommendations for revisions when necessary.  Provides policy and procedure interpretation of financial matters and advises college and departmental administrative staff regarding changes and updates. 
  • Budget: Coordinates the preparation and administration of the annual operating budget for the college.  Provides long-range budget planning expertise and direction for integrating the annual budget preparations with the college and University’s strategic priorities and initiatives.
