Job Description

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering is seeking an Academic Support Coordinator for the Student Success and Engagement team, part of Academic & Student Affairs in the Fulton Dean’s Office. This position is responsible for overseeing the recruitment, training, and performance of undergraduate teaching assistants (UGTA) and ASU 101 Section Leaders (SL) within the department. This role ensures the quality and effectiveness of the assistance provided by UGTAs and Section Leaders to faculty and students in undergraduate courses. This role is crucial for maintaining the quality of educational support provided by undergraduate teaching assistants/section leaders and for ensuring that they have a positive and formative experience during their tenure.
This role also supports essential duties within E2 Camp, a cornerstone retention initiative. E2camp is held in Prescott, Arizona during July and August annually. This individual will be required to travel to and participate in leadership of E2 for approximately 10 days (not consecutive), which will be decided in conjunction with the individual hired.
These programs are integral to “The Fulton Difference”; providing students the opportunity to build their portfolio through research, entrepreneurship, community service, competitive projects, and global experiences. Under general supervision, the coordinator position will work as part of a team to execute and assess a comprehensive plan for engaging and retaining undergraduate, graduate immersion, and online students in experiential learning and leadership development both within and outside the traditional classroom.

Salary Range

$44,000 - $50,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Coordinates operations of Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UGTA) and Section Leader (SL) programs through onboarding, training, and placement of student leaders.
  • Coordinates the recruitment process for UGTA and SL programs, including advertising positions and reviewing applications.
  • Works closely with faculty and the Fulton Dean’s Office to coordinate needs and placement of in-classroom student leaders.
  • Maintains a database of student applications and faculty requests.
  • Collects feedback from faculty on UGTA/SL performance.
  • Conducts performance evaluations to foster UGTA and SL growth and ensure high quality support for students.
  • Ensures compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a mentor to UGTA/SLs, providing guidance and support for their academic and professional development.
  • Facilitates communication between UGTA/SLs and faculty to ensure a cohesive educational environment.
  • Address any issues or conflicts that arise between UGTA/SLs, students, and faculty members.
  • Prepares reports on program effectiveness and propose improvements when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
