Job Summary
The Student Success Hub provides a collaborative structure for advisors to support students across multiple programs, a commitment to ongoing professional development, and a supportive leadership team dedicated to professional advising and student success. This position will provide mentorship and supervision for a team of advisors and support the efforts of the Student Success Hub, specifically in the thread serving Psychology. This position will also contribute to ongoing training, development, assessment, and retention of the advisors in the Hub.
With minimal supervision, this position also advises a diverse population of students regarding their academic planning and progress by utilizing professional advising and guidance skills. Interprets and explains university academic policy and procedures to assist students in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to degree completion.
This position will assist the University in promoting a climate of respect and equity that cultivates and sustains transformative practices by forging spaces of possibility where people feel safe, valued, welcomed, and respects all students in their quest for individual success through degree programs, certificates, majors, etc.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills in communication, time management, and problem solving. The Student Success Hub seeks and values team members who are curious, resilient, proactive, and committed to student success.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises and mentors advising staff in the Psychology thread by establishing goals and evaluating performance.
  • Supports onboarding of new staff.
  • Assesses the past performance of academic programs though program evaluations.
  • Meets with undergraduate students to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements and exceptions, and course planning and registration.
  • Facilitates students’ academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans. Makes referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming learning obstacles, tutoring, career decisions, mental health, or other various needs.
  • Disseminates information to students, faculty, and departments about changes in major requirements or University policies and adjusts advising strategies as appropriate.
  • Uses enterprise-level data analytics and student record technology platforms (e.g., EAB) to monitor student progress. Participates in proactive advising and intervention strategies for assigned student populations.
  • Actively engages in campus-based professional development communities, including but not limited to UAAC or other relevant campus-based organizations that advances direct skills in academic advising.
  • Proficient in degree tracking software, record keeping systems, and advising-related technologies
  • Maintains students’ academic files that include a record of advising activity, referrals, exceptions made, transfer courses, etc. Actively engages with EAB.
  • Participates in advising and related activities during New Student Orientation each semester.
  • Assists with data compilation, statistical reports, and correspondence, depending on the area of assignment.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and trainings related to advising.
  • Supports the Student Success Hub in appropriate outreach events and activities as assigned.
  • Provides other advising-related activities as needed and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area plus three years of experience in program management or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Develops and implements program ideas into successful academic programs; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Preferences
  • Four years of academic advising experience (up to two years can be non-academic advising related)
  • Experience with academic advising for students majoring/minoring in Psychology
  • Experience in training and staff development within higher education, especially in cross-training
  • Master’s degree
