Staff Scientist to work on research projects with Drosophila Melanogaster
50-80 %
The position is available in Prof. D. Brunner's research group in the Department of Molecular Life Sciences at the University of Zurich.
The lab investigates evolutionary conserved, molecular networks and the fundamental physical principles that together give rise to cell type-specific architecture and function of eukaryotic cells.
The emphasis is on the dynamic properties of cytoskeletal and membrane networks and their role in cell morphogenesis and cell/tissue force generation. To study these dynamic biological systems, the lab uses high-end time-resolved 3D fluorescence imaging in the intact, living organism, in combination with modern genetic, biochemical, molecular biological and biophysical tools. A central goal is to integrate tissue-, cell- and sub-cellular scale analysis in order to understand the interplay of the relevant mechanisms.
Your responsibilities
The successful applicant will supervise and contribute to research projects using Drosophila melanogaster as model organism. The position also comes with seasonal teaching duties.
Your profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher to join our research group. The candidate must have a solid background in Drosophila melanogaster genetics and in the standard molecular biology technologies. Experience with microscopy is an asset.
Candidates must hold a PhD in life sciences, ideally with a cell biology, developmental biology or biophysics background.
What we offer
The successful applicant will profit from a vibrant and friendly atmosphere and an international and highly interdisciplinary academic environment that bridges biophysics, cell- and developmental biology. He/she will have the opportunity to acquire expertise in yeast biology and high-end bio-imaging technologies.
