Offer Description

The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2200 people.

For the Photon Science Detector Group we are looking for a

Your tasks
You will participate to the development of the next generation single photon counting pixel detectors. You will test detector prototypes, analyze data, and collaborate with the chip designers to improve overall performance. You will characterize single photon counting detectors in combination with advanced sensors e.g., LGADs for soft X-rays and high-Z materials for hard X-rays. You will take part to experiments and beamtimes to characterize and optimize the performance of single photon counting detectors. As our group philosophy relies on a strong teamwork, you will be able to get an insight in all aspects of detector development, from the design of the individual components of the detector to the final pilot experiments.
