Your mission :
  • You will assist the scientific staff in the CIME's mission of providing access to cutting edge electron microscopy techniques
  • You will give scientific support to trained users and conduct TEM and FIB service and feasibility studies for the CIME's clients
  • You will participate in the management of CIME's high-end TEM equipment and in the implementation of new TEM techniques
  • You will also contribute to user training and teaching of students

Main duties and responsibilities include :
  • Conduct sample preparation by FIB
  • Conduct service work in collaboration with internal as well as external/industrial clients
  • Support EPFL researchers for TEM investigations and data analysis
  • Conduct trainings of new users on TEM
  • Provide technical assistance to users
  • Contribute to the research and development of new techniques available to EPFL's research community at the CIME

Your profile :
  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science or Chemistry using TEM techniques.
  • Expertise in the following fields/techniques:
    • Sample preparation by FIB
    • TEM BD/DF imaging and electron diffraction
    • Analytical TEM, STEM EDX
  • Expertise with beam sensitive samples or in-situ microscopy is welcome
  • Experience with aberration corrected instruments not absolutely necessary
