Mechanical Technician (TTE Programme)

The Forming & Welding Section (FW) provides expertise and support in the field of metal forming and assembly technologies, undertakes the fabrication of prototypes or small series using a wide range of in-house technologies, realises various development studies.

As a Laser Beam Welding Technician in the FW Section, you will:

• carry out hands-on work on Laser Welding, Laser Cutting and Laser Additive Manufacturing.
• Join a team of highly qualified technicians and engineers in laser and Electron Beam processes;
• After an initial period of familiarization and with the supervision of colleagues, you will personally perform welding and cutting operations on different state-of-the art laser beam welding equipment, for the fabrication of highly technical prototypes and components of accelerators and related experimental facilities;
• Operate a Selective Laser Melting Additive Manufacturing machine and take on activities for prototyping, small series, and material development.
• Design jigs and fixtures for welding and cutting activities, in collaboration with the design office;
• Participate in multidisciplinary projects, maintain close co-operation with the other Engineering facilities CERN-wide;
• Prepare technical reports (WPS’s, assembly procedures, etc.) and presentations when required.
• In the longer term- depending on your willingness to acquire the know-how to operate Electron Beam Welding  machines - you will have the possibility to reinforce the given service and take on welding activities.
