The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, education and services at local, national and international levels. 950 people from 80 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions.

We offer an opportunity for an internship or MSc project in the Agricultural Health Group within the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) of Swiss TPH. (https://www.swisstph.ch/en/about/eph/chronic-disease-epidemiology/agricultural-health )

The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) investigates distribution and causes of infections and non-communicable diseases. To understand and promote the well-being of people in different cultural and environmental contexts, EPH applies various methods ranging from anthropology and social science to biostatistics and mathematical modelling as well as observational cohorts with biobanks.

Fieldwork and collaboration in the "Exposure to Pesticides by Air and Respiratory Health in School Children in VALais, Switzerland" (PARVAL; https://www.swisstph.ch/en/projects/parval ), organisation of study procedures, communication with stakeholders and study participants as well as data collection and management. Pesticide exposure and its possible health effects are not yet well understood. As part of a scientific study, the State Council of the Canton of Valais has commissioned Swiss TPH to conduct a pesticide exposure assessment of children living near vineyards and fruit orchards, and to study the possible association with acute respiratory health outcomes. Together with our PARVAL project partners, we contribute to the feasible, desirable and sustainable development of Swiss agriculture.

You would work with our core team of five people. We have a familiar, supportive and motivated working environment.
