The Department of Molecular Biosciences, Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) conducts experimental basic research in molecular cell biology, intergrative biology and infection and immune biology. Project description
The position is based at the Intravital Imaging Facility at Stockholms University (IVMSU) headed by Director Dr. Christiane Peuckert and is also tightly associated with the research group Cell Biology of Nutrient Regulated Gene Expression headed by Professor Per O. Ljungdahl.

The aim of the work within IVMSU (60 %) is to develop new and improve existing intravital imaging methodologies. The aim of the research project carried out in collaboration with the Ljungdahl group (40 %) is to establish intravital imaging methodologies to investigate the pathobiology of Candida albicans using rodent models.

Main responsibilities
The researcher is expected to obtain expertise and state-of-the-art working knowledge regarding a wide spectrum of techniques required to exploit the full capacity of multiphoton intravital microscopy. The researcher will participate in method development to enable intravital imaging in various research models.
In collaboration with the Ljungdahl group the researcher will use in vivo imaging methods to visualize the pathobiological progression of Candida albicans infections during the colonization of specific organs.

Qualification requirements
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to relevant research experience. Researchers appointed for this position must hold a doctoral degree in biosciences or biomedicine. Extensive experience in working with animal models, specifically with rodents, and documentation of completed courses in the ethical handling of research animals is a requirement.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in experimental biology and documented experience working with research animals and the related skills such as in-depth knowledge of rodent anatomy. The candidate should also have good working knowledge of light microscopy. During the course of employment, the researcher should be able to develop the necessary theoretical and practical skills required for intravital imaging, including surgical techniques and anesthesia. Candidates with relevant expertise, including molecular microbiology, infection biology or fungal pathogen-host interactions, and previous experience with two-photon microscopy, will therefore be prioritized. 

Great emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics. We are looking for a highly motivated and focused individual to work as a productive member of a competent team of interdisciplinary experimentalists. The ability to effectively collaborate with the members of the assembled team researchers is essential. Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken, are a requisite. Good Swedish language skills are an advantage.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for one year, with the possibility of extension. Start date in November 2021, or as per agreement.
