Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

A position as a Research Specialist is available in the lab of Thomas Perlmann at the department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institutet. The lab is located at Biomedicum, a newly opened research building with excellent infrastructure and world leading research.

Description of the subject area

The lab’s primary focus is on the development of dopamine neurons and the embryonic ventral midbrain, the region in the embryo where dopamine neurons are generated. We are unraveling the signaling and transcriptional regulation that govern the specification, differentiation and maintenance of these cells. The studies have resulted in the identification of several transcription factors with key roles in these processes. Moreover, we are also interested in regenerative medicine in relation to Parkinson’s disease and other brain disorders. Our focus is primarily on mouse models but we also study human dopamine neurons and their development.

Your mission

A position as a Research Specialist is now open in projects devoted to questions concerning the development and subtype specification of dopamine neurons.

The research will also focus on other projects of relevance for the development of the ventral midbrain.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise including several years of research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist who can collaborate, communicate and function well in a team. The following qualifications are required: Experience of experimental work focused on the mouse developing CNS, mouse genetics methods, skills and appropriate certificate for mouse animal work (FELASA C or equivalent), experience with cell culture, expertise in histological methods including immunohistochemistry and methods for in situ hybridization, FACS analysis. Excellent English oral and writing skills is a requirement. Previous work in the area of midbrain development is a merit.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
