Research Scientist within reactor technology

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 03 Dec 2022

SINTEF is the largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia. Over the last 70 years, we have created value and innovation through knowledge generation and development of technological solutions that are brought into practical use. Today, SINTEF is a broadly based, multidisciplinary research institute with international top-level expertise in technology, medicine and the social sciences, striving to implement our vision, 'Technology for a better society'. SINTEF is non- profit, and all margin is re-invested into building state-of-the-art infrastructure and developing new research.

The Flow Technology research group works with reactive single and multi-phase flow- and process-related challenges of interest to industry and society. Some of the current research topics include carbon capture and storage (CCS), wind energy, metal production, electrolysis, bubble plumes, reactor technology, wave phenomena and more. The group consists of researchers with a background in applied Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), chemical engineering, numerical methods, programming and experiments. In addition, the group is developing and scaling up several novel reactor technologies for more sustainable industrial processes.

We would like to strengthen our team with a scientist familiar with experimental reactor technology. The scientist is envisaged to work on lab- and pilot-scale reactors for carbon capture, methane pyrolysis and biomass conversion processes. All aspects from designing reactors, building reactors and running experiments are part of the job description. Performing process simulations related to the experiment activities, as well as other processes, will also be part of the job. The candidate should play an active role in helping to further develop the reactor technologies originating from the group, including applying for project funding and dissemination of results. We are looking for candidates with

  • A MSc or PhD within chemical engineering
  • Competence on experimental reactor technology

It also an advantage with experience within one or several of these topics:

  • Process simulations using Aspen Plus or similar
  • Cost-assessments of industrial processes
  • Carbon capture, methane pyrolysis and/or biomass conversion technologies
  • Fluidized bed reactor technologies

The candidate should be highly committed to applied science, be passionate about developing sustainable reactor technologies, be able to work in teams and strive for excellence. Good skills in English (written and oral) are required. Skills in Norwegian are an advantage, but not a requirement.
