Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With
The Phage-Based Biocontrol Programme involves establishing a pipeline for flexible discovery of natural phage-based biocontrols to precisely target economically-important bacterial pathogens in the food production sector.

The program is funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and is co-lead by an Academic at UC and Otago University and is set to revolutionize agricultural approaches in Aotearoa-NZ.

The researchers you will support are established leaders in Aotearoa-NZ and internationally and will coordinate and oversee the programme in addition to leading much of the science.

The programme supports additional contributions from ESR, University of Canterbury, University of Otago, BioSouth, Plant and Food Research, Māori engagement professionals and includes three advisory committees (scientific, stakeholder, and commercial).

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
As the Programme Manager for our Phage-Based Biocontrol Programme, you will play a pivotal role in managing the team. You will project manage this Programme, coordinate interdisciplinary teams of experts and collaborate with stakeholders, advisory committees, and international partners.

Monitor and support defined project scopes, objectives, and timelines in relation to MBIE milestones, ensuring progress at different research stages. Manage budgets in consultation with Principal investigators, and other key staff.

Foster an inclusive and diverse work environment, ensuring the inclusion of Māori perspectives and contributions in line with Vision Mātauranga principles.

Mōu | Who You Are

You hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as microbiology, biotechnology, or agricultural science. You have:

  • Programme management experience, particularly in leading interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage complex, multi-stage research and development projects.
  • Experience in the agricultural or environmental sector and knowledge of phage-based biocontrols is beneficial.

You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse University administrators and stakeholders, including Māori partners.

Familiarity with the principles of Vision Mātauranga and an understanding of their relevance to this program is ideal.
