About our team/Mō te tīma

The Department of Māori Indigenous Health Innovation (MIHI) undertakes research, teaching and community service in response to supporting Māori health advancement. We are seeking a Kaitohutohu Rangahau Hauora Māori to join our whānau and support our Māori Health Advancement Programme.

This programme offers researchers the opportunity to build confidence in applying principles of Māori Health Advancement to their research and/or research projects by engaging in a process that supports researcher development, research applications and ultimately research that engages with Māori communities and supports Māori health advancement.

The role/Te mahi

This leadership role is dedicated to advancing Māori health research at the University of Otago, Christchurch (UOC).

As Kaitohutohu Rangahau Hauora Māori (Māori Health Research Advisor), you will play a pivotal role in coordinating the Rangahau Māori professional development programme.

Key tasks of the role include:
•    Reviewing Rangahau Māori on-line plans and approving these in consultation with the Māori Research Expertise Rōpū (MRER) and the UOC Māori Research Advisory Rōpū (MRAR).
•    Taking leadership in developing and implementing strategies and processes to increase the responsiveness of the UOC research to the needs and aspirations of Māori and actively promote developments in this area.
•    Identifying and establishing relationships with key stakeholders and funding bodies.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

Essential
•    Excellent working knowledge of te reo me nga tikanga Māori and its application in research.
•    Excellent knowledge of, and familiarity with, local and national Māori organisations.
•    Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
•    Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive and effective networks within the community, both Māori and non-Māori.
•    Initiative and the ability to work independently and to problem-solve.
•    The ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups.
•    Excellent organisational skills.
•    Excellent negotiating skills.

Preferred
•    In depth understanding of health research practice and ethics and project management.
•    A tertiary qualification that reflects an understanding of academic research processes.

This is a part-time (18.75 hours week), permanent position, located in Christchurch.

You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this position.

The appointment range is $90,165 to $106,863 per annum (pro rata).
