Te Ara Poutama, AUT's Faculty of Māori & Indigenous Development, aspires to lead the university as a faculty of excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and scholarship relevant to the communities we serve.

In our faculty, we are currently seeking a visionary Digital Developer/Programmer (New Media Specialist) to join our prestigious AppLab. Our mission is to pioneer advancements in the 4th industrial revolution, merging the realms of art, culture, science, and technology. Our multidisciplinary approach fuels knowledge in digital innovation, propelling research areas and fostering external stakeholder engagement.

About The Role:

As a Digital Developer/Programmer (New Media Specialist), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Extended Reality (XR), immersive, and interactive mediums. This is a unique opportunity to merge your passion for art, technology, and programming to contribute to cutting-edge creative and research projects within AUT's AppLab. You will work alongside a dedicated team, under the leadership of the Institute's Director, to drive innovation in digital storytelling, interactive applications, and new media research. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead R&D in XR, focusing on embodied interaction design and educational content.
  • Develop interactive applications for XR platforms with engaging user experiences.
  • Conduct new media research, applying insights in IoT, XR, projection mapping, and 3D interaction design.
  • Manage a small team, blending team management with hands-on project execution.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise in Web 3.0, progressive web apps, WebXR, and languages such as Python, Three.JS, and C#.
  • Utilise knowledge in data visualization, MR, XR, haptic visuality, and digital storytelling.
  • Integrate Māori Kaupapa and non-Western philosophies in digital design.

This role demands a blend of technical prowess and academic insight. Your academic experience will enable you to grasp the complex academic rationale and logic underpinning our projects, research, critical thinking, and the application of theory to practice—skills that are pivotal to navigating the challenges and opportunities of digital innovation in an academic setting.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $92,000 pro-rata (appointment level and salary commensurate with skills and experience)
