We’re seeking a seasoned and dynamic Sr. 3D Artist to lead our team of 3D artists in our XR working group, Split Studio. This role will require close collaboration with game designers, content, development & UX design teams to facilitate the creation of visually striking and effective 3D experiences. As a Sr. 3D Artist, you will be managing a team of student workers and be tasked with the oversight and production of 3D assets at every stage of the project. This includes the creation and assembly of diverse environments, optimization of pre-existing assets, and establishment of immersive experiences for ASU Online students and our partners. Daily tasks/responsibilities include producing 3D assets, leading meetings, reviewing 3D artist work, as well as implementing new processes for a more optimized 3D workflow. 

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in strong modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, and animation. The individual should be able to inspire collaboration to produce high-quality 3D assets for web, XR, and mobile production. We’re seeking professionals who blend creativity and intellectual curiosity to confront challenges in unique ways. An imaginative, engaging team leader with superb communication skills and a keen interest in immersive technologies (AR,VR, Simulations/Game Design). Essential Duties:

  • Lead a team of student assistants to create high quality 3D assets using modeling, texturing, lighting/rendering, and rigging/animation workflows
  • Oversee and contribute to 3D content creation pipelines for various outputs (web products, AR/VR products)
  • Design and manage the production of 3D environments for immersive experiences and simulations
  • Use stakeholder feedback to drive iterations in an Agile environment
  • Implement 3D assets in XR experiences and simulations
  • Lead and contribute to brainstorming sessions for upcoming projects
  • Stay updated with new tools and emerging technologies, and integrate learnings into the team's workflow
  • Provide a learning environment and mentor student workers
  • Promote a collaborative atmosphere with other designers and developers, encouraging design thinking and best practices to help accomplish project objectives
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple tasks and operate in a high-paced environment.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Graphic Art or related field AND four years experience in graphic design and layout, illustration, or commercial art; OR, eight years’ experience in graphic design and layout, illustration, or commercial art; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in 3D modeling and texturing software (Blender, Substance 3D Suite, Maya, Zbrush, etc.)
  • Experience in the full 3D pipeline: modeling, materials, texturing and UV mapping, rigging and animation, lighting and rendering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Immersive technologies (AR, VR, MR)
  • Experience in optimizing 3D assets for web experiences
  • Demonstrated knowledge in photogrammetry and LiDAR scanning
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, After Effects)
  • Experience with game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine)
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Experience in managing multiple projects in an agile environment
  • Artistic eye for design and a willingness to take creative risks
  • Evidence in being self-motivated and continual learning in the field of immersive design
  • Candidates must provide or be able to present recent design work for consideration

Working Environment

EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education, and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.

EdPlus at ASU supports flexible work options, ranging from alternate work schedules to hybrid remote work schedules, subject to approvals per ASU policy. (This is not a fully remote position.)
