What you will be doing | Ngā whāinga matua

This is an exciting position where you will undertake a science leadership role to lead the Aquatic Phenomics & Genomics team and contribute to the field of genetics for fisheries management and aquaculture, and the application of high-throughput phenotyping techniques to support management decisions.

In this role you will:

• Nurture, mentor and lead the development of a collaborative, collegial and productive team to drive and deliver science
• Undertake and lead research to support projects that have a focus on genetic applications for the fisheries and aquaculture sector, and phenomics solutions and applications across the Seafood Technologies Portfolio
• Contribute to the development of the science group strategy and lead implementation, ensuring connection and alignment
• Provide leadership in communicating science strategy and direction, developing successful funding proposals and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality science and commercial outputs.

What you will bring | Ngā tino pūkenga me ngā wheako

To be successful in this role, the minimum qualifications required are:

• A post-graduate qualification (a relevant PhD is preferred) in biological sciences (e.g. genetics, evolution, animal ecology, or similar)
• Significant, tangible experience in people leadership
• Previous experience in engaging with Māori stakeholders and iwi/hapu groups is an advantage
• Keen to make a positive difference to NZ's aquaculture and seafood industries and wanting to apply knowledge and skills to develop real-world solutions
• Proficient in the use of bioinformatics tools for large data set analysis, sample tracking and general molecular biology software.
