Offer Description
Cities all over the world are suffering the impact of multiple hazards and climate change effects. Our group is developing fundamental and applied research to assess the vulnerability of infrastructure through the integration of large remote sensing datasets with geospatial information and structural models.
As a part of our commitment to innovation and open science, we are seeking a skilled research software engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in developing and implementing cutting-edge algorithms and software solutions with a focus on Python programming within a GIS environment. This role involves collaborating with a team of researchers and programmers to address complex research questions by creating robust, efficient, and scalable software tools and applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop innovative algorithms and software tools for research projects, emphasizing Python coding within a GIS framework, e.g. QGIS or ArcGIS software.
- Adhere to the FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability) in all software development processes to enhance the openness and reproducibility of research outputs.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary research teams to understand their computational needs, offering technical expertise and programming solutions to meet these requirements effectively.
- Ensure the seamless integration of developed software and algorithms into broader research workflows, enhancing the efficiency and impact of research projects.
- Contribute to the dissemination of research findings and software tools through comprehensive documentation, and publications.
Requirements
Specific Requirements
To be considered for the position you will have:
- A Master's or PhD degree in a relevant field, i.e. Data Analysis, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Remote Sensing or Civil Engineeing with a computational focus.
- Demonstrated expertise in Python programming and experience in developing algorithms or software within a GIS environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, coupled with solid communication and interpersonal skills.
- Practical experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and familiarity with open-source software development practices.

Benefits
- A salary based on scale 10 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of € 3.226,- and a maximum of € 5.090, gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
