At the Department of Geoscience & Remote Sensing at TU Delft, we are involved in a large national infrastructure project (known as the “Ruisdael observatory”) aimed at improving the observation and modelling of the atmosphere in The Netherlands. This important national infrastructure is closely linked to the European Aerosol, Clouds and Trace gases Research InfraStructure (ACTRIS) .

To focus on cloud observation in Europe, the Ruisdael team at TU-Delft is looking for a scientist to manage and coordinate the activities related to this objective and ensure a smooth exchange of knowledge between Ruisdael and the rest of the ACTRIS community. An important aspect of the position is the quality control and quality assurance of the cloud observations in Europe.

Responsibilities:

  • Management and coordination of CCRES-NL activities (CCRES being the Centre for Cloud Remote Sensing within ACTRIS).
  • Responsible for implementing standards for data quality (labelling process) at the Cabauw atmospheric super site, needed to become a European National Facility.
  • Quality control and quality assurance of the cloud observations (including periodic reporting to CCRES).
  • Coordination of cloud radar calibration and measurement procedures.
  • Organizing cloud radar training and consultancy for setting up new observation sites.
  • Contribute to new scientific and technical developments.

Requirements

We are seeking a scientist (master level) with background in remote sensing of the atmosphere, preferably in the field of cloud and weather radar. The person should have good analytical skills and should be proficient at using high-level programing languages to analyze and process large amounts of data.

Since the position also involves detailed documentation, reporting, and communication with partners from other ACTRIS National Facilities, the candidate should have strong English language skills (oral and written) and be good at coordinating and managing multiple tasks.


Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

  • A salary based on scale 10 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of €3.226 and a maximum of €5.090 gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
