The School of Physics wishes to appoint a Technical Officer to primarily provide support in the School’s undergraduate teaching lab facilities. The post-holder will work as a member of the technical support team charged with ensuring the successful operation of the physics undergraduate/postgraduate teaching laboratories (1st, 2nd, and 3rd UG years, MSc, etc.) and maintaining all equipment to the highest level. The types of experiments conducted by the students in the labs range from simple introductory physics to near-research standard, using optical, electronic, electrical, mechanical, and radiological equipment.

The role also entails assisting the School’s research groups with related technical projects as well as other technical duties and responsibilities within the School of Physics.

Post status: Permanent Contract

Hours of Post: 36.5 hours per week

Salary: Appointment will be made on the Technical Officer Pay Scale Salary Scale] at a point in line with Government Pay Policy [€36,840 to €56,720 per annum] New Entrants to the Public Sector will be appointed on Point 1 of the Scale, €36,840 per annum Qualifications for New Staff (from 1 January 2007) Entry to the profession will require relevant Honours degree. National Certificate on Entry- Qualifications for Existing Staff (before 1 January 2007) The preferred candidate if an MSc holder on entry, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience (that must be relevant), may be appointed at Senior Technical Officer level.
