Applications are invited for a 18-month Research Scientist position as part of the project "FOODSEC: Food security in Bronze Age Ireland" (

). This project will investigate how past societies managed food security by undertaking a case study on food storage practices in Bronze Age Ireland. Archaeological evidence (food-storage facilities; food remains) and folklife and folklore evidence (food-storage facilities) will be collated, and new scientific analyses will be undertaken (experimental pits; stable isotope analysis).


This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of an international, interdisciplinary team (PI: Assoc. Prof. Meriel McClatchie; Co-I: Dr Kerri Cleary). The Research Scientist will focus on archaeological, folklife and folklore evidence for food-storage facilities. They will collate and analyse relevant data and create a GIS and interactive online maps. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to receive training in data analysis, GIS and mapping.

It is anticipated that the role will commence on 1st December 2022.

Fixed salary: €40,023 per annum
