Applications are invited for a Temporary 3 year post of a Executive Assistant (Reception) within UCD Geary Institute for Public Policy.

Position Summary:

Context

The Geary Institute for Public Policy was founded in 1999 and is one of six flagship research institutes in the University which are an integral part of its strategy to develop inter-disciplinary research. These institutes are centres of research excellence which accommodate a critical mass of world-class researchers in priority research areas. The Geary Institute is a centre of excellence for policy-relevant, theoretically informed, empirically-grounded research.

The Geary Institute currently has over 80 active fellows and supports 40 researchers and 30 doctoral students. The main disciplines represented at the Institute are demography, economics, education, finance, law, political science, psychology, public health, social policy and sociology.

The Institute has a strong record of collaboration with policy makers and maximizing the policy impact of its research. It achieves this by participating in government expert groups, running conferences, and training and via its online platform Publicpolicy.ie which disseminates research to inform economic, social and environmental policies in an accessible way to policy makers and interested citizens.

Nature and Purpose

Reporting to the manager of Geary Institute for Public Policy, the executive assistant will play an important role in supporting the Institute's activities and the implementation of its strategic plan. The successful candidate will staff the institute reception and support the researchers and PhD students based there as well as the research activities of Institute members. S/he will provide administrative support for the institute's communications, publications meetings, training events and conferences and process applications for desk space for researchers and PhD students.

The Geary Reception area also provide social media communications for all UCD Geary Institute communications including seminar and event notifications, advertisement of Fellows' events & news, publications, and responses to general queries via @ucdgearyinst on Twitter.

The person appointed will assist the Director, Institute Manager and Principal Investigators in the administration of research and other activities of the Institute. A significant component of the role will involve the administration of the newly established Publicpolicy.ie portal at UCD Geary Institute, which will act as a resource for providing and disseminating evidence to inform Irish policy making and debate.

The post will involve a high level of interaction with senior Institute researchers, UCD Colleges and Units and with international visitors and students. The successful candidate will be working within a busy and dynamic office and will regularly be required to manage and prioritise tasks.

95 Executive Assistant Salary Scale: 27,490 - 43,250 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
