The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine (reNEW) at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen is looking for a highly motivated Stem Cell Technologist

The Center:

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW has its Hub at UCPH as well as nodes at UCPH, MCRI and LUMC. Researchers within reNEW addresses fundamental questions in stem cell and developmental biology and will pivot research findings to clinical outcomes and products for patients with incurable disorders such as congenital kidney disorders, type 1 diabetes, heart defects, Parkinsons’ disease.

We are now seeking a highly motivated and self-starting Stem Cell Technologist.

Responsibilities: The Stem Cell Technologist will support day-to-day work within the tissue culture and cell line generation team at reNEW Copenhagen under supervision of the platform manager. Here the role will involve the generation of stem cell lines that have been engineered to express e.g. lineage specific reporters, isogenenic cell lines expressing disease associated mutations. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Support, optimize, and perform conditioned media preparations as required by the platform (e.g. quality control optimization and cell line generation)
  • Introduce, maintain, and enforce clear operating guidelines and safety in GMO1 and GMO2 cell culture labs
  • Inform on and support stem cell culture activities for facility users:
    • Testing for mycoplasma and karyotyping
    • Batch testing of serum, media, and supplements if required
    • Set-up in-house cytokine production using mammalian cell systems

Qualifications:  Candidates are reguired to have a masters degree, but ideally a PhD degree, in natural or health science. In addition, we are seeking a candidate with the following competences:

  • Experience in cell culture and stem cell differentiation.
  • Experience in cell line generation and gene editing (e.g. transfection, selection, expansion, screening and characterization) will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of conditioned media preparation, to not only support and perform the preparation but also to optimize the process.
  • Experience in batch testing (e.g. FBS) and routine quality control tasks such as mycoplasma testing and/or karyotyping.
  • Experience in Flow Cytometry and cell sorting will be advantageous.
  • Prior knowledge of the Danish legislation for GMO1 and GMO2 labs.
  • Experience in project management and a strong ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and frequent deadlines.
  • Work independently as well as a part of the team.
  • Ability to develop good relations in a multi-cultural research environment, and excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Capacity to work with people from a variety of organizations and at a number of different professional levels.
  • A proactive, innovative, analytical, goal- and solution-oriented attitude to problem solving.

The employment can begin in May 2022 or upon agreement with the chosen candidate. The place of work is at reNEW, University of Copenhagen, Blegdamsvej 3B, Copenhagen.  The position will be as “specialkonsulent”, at Panum, University of Copenhagen and  will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). To the salary is added a monthly contribution to a pension fund according to the collective agreement, and a supplement can be negotiated, depending on the candidate’s experiences and qualifications.
