Department of Biology at Faculty of Science, the University of Copenhagen is looking for an academic employee with effect from 1.7.2023.

About us

The Department has a very unique research and study environment with strong basic research and versatile education in biology, biochemistry, molecular biomedicine and bioinformatics.

In the Section for Cell Biology and Physiology, our research is aimed at deciphering the molecular and cellular bases of human diseases and genetic disorders as well as physiological adaptations in response to environmental challenges.

The group works on the role of calcium-binding proteins in health and disease, focusing on the role of mutated Calmodulin in heart pathophysiology and the function of several calcium-binding proteins in plasma membrane repair. For further information on our scientific program, see

Tasks

The job includes biochemical and cell biological work in the group of Prof. M. Berchtold in the section Cell Biology and Physiology at the Department of Biology.

Your tasks will include

Routine lab work: Lab manager, maintenance of equipment:

Aekta purification systems, PCR, Sterile facilities, incubators, flow bench, cell counting machine, microscopes, Gel-imager, Electroporation instrument, Electrophoresis systems

Administration: Ordering lab supply, keeping lab journals and inventar lists updated

Teaching: Showing new student around the laboratory, show them where the instruments are and how they work and introduce them to methods.

Research: help with experiments, support scientists in their various research together with a technician.

Plan experiments.

Discuss and write research papers.

We expect

  • The candidate should have a master’s degree in biochemistry.
  • A minimum of three years of lab management and maintenance.
  • Experience in teaching and guiding students at the bachelor and master level.
  • Prior theoretical knowledge and experience in research on Calmodulin and other calcium binding protein involved in intracellular signaling.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in basic biochemical and eukaryotic cell biological techniques.
  • Work experience with RNA extraction and qPCR.
  • Documented skills in generating recombinant DNA and cell lines with the use of advanced CRISPR technologies.

Terms of salary and employment

Employment will be as academic employee. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time are 28 hours per week on average for 9 months. The working hours are flexible.
