Quantum Processor integration lead for semiconducting platform

Updated: about 1 year ago
Deadline: 11 Apr 2023

Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computer Programme at Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science, the University of Copenhagen is looking for a Quantum Processor integration lead with effect from 1 June, or earlier.

About us
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) is establishing a talented and diverse international team to create a cutting-edge quantum programme in the heart of Copenhagen. We aim to establish an international quantum computing programme that will drive research and innovations at multiple levels - from developing scalable quantum processor technologies to solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications.

The long-term mission of the programme is to develop fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and quantum algorithms that solve life-science-relevant chemical and biological problems.

The Job
We are seeking an experienced quantum engineer with expertise in semiconducting spin qubits and integrated circuits involving semiconducting components to the newly established programme, NQCP at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The employee will be focusing on designing, assembling, and advancing state-of-the-art experiments to develop semiconducting components for the generation and processing of quantum information.

The employee will lead the spin qubit and semiconductor platform development at the centre hub, and in close collaboration with superconducting and photonic qubit platform teams, work with chip fabrication, characterization, theory, and simulation teams. The employee will build an international network of collaborators with a main scope of responsibility centring on semiconductor system engineering, including running measurements, data tracking & analysis, and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Take active part in strategy planning around scaling quantum integrated circuits (monolithic, hybrid, modular).
  • Plan and coordinate development of physical and logical spin qubit experiments (including error correction schemes).
  • Implement and document experiments, analyse data, generate reports.
  • Help managing the use of equipment and development of equipment for specialized tests.
  • Engage with the simulation team on design of semiconducting and hybrid platforms.
  • Engage with other teams developing device fabrication, control, and architecture; help standardizing benchmarks and potentially develop transduction schemes between qubit platforms.

We expect

  • PhD in physics, engineering, nanotechnologies, or related.
  • More than 5 years’ experimental work with spin qubits and cryogenic systems.
  • Experience with managing data driven research and development teams.
  • Experience with cryogenic equipment (e.g. designing and/or operating cryostats, electric and/or optical control of cryogenic devices).

Why Us?
Joining NQCP now, you will be involved from the very beginning and contribute to the fulfilment of the mission of NQCP. We want to make Denmark a world leader in quantum research, and we hope to attract people from all over the world.

Life in Denmark is supported with strong social services (free universal healthcare, free/subsidised language courses, paid parental leave, subsidised day care institutions and excellent public schools). Our work culture is very egalitarian and prioritises work life balance. Dual career families are the norm, and workplaces offer flexibility to support everyone in having both an exciting career and good family time. Danish cities are known for having excellent infrastructure, for example through widespread bike path networks. We can also offer a thriving food-scene, excellent museums, and beautiful natural scenery.

Terms of salary and employment
The employment and salary are made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Employment will be as special consultant. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time are 37 hours per week on average. The working hours are flexible.
The employment period is limited until 31 December 2029.

Appointment will be subject to receipt of a security clearance.
