Interdisciplinary Research Assistant/Postdoc positions in the field of biogeochemistry - DTU Offshore
Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark
Job Description

Two research positions related to the project LoCo2  on ensuring the safety of subsurface CO2 storage for microbial and faunal life in the environment of the seabed sediments.

Are you interested in being part of the energy transition R&D
Subsurface CO2 storage is a promising solution to mitigate climate change. However, with CO2 storage comes a risk (albeit small) of CO2 leakage. Here in DOTC, we are conducting a comprehensive study of the potential journey of CO2 from offshore storage to seabed and its eventual impact on the marine environment. The aim is to ensure that CO2 storage is not only feasible but also acceptable and safe. You will be joining a rapidly growing group of postdocs, research assistants, and PhD students with multiple skills working on various projects related to underground CO2 storage and microbial life in subsurface reservoirs. You will have the opportunity to be a part of a true multidisciplinary initiative, where you can look at a problem from different viewpoints.

We are looking for research assistants and postdocs who are interested in being a part of energy transition with a focus on protecting marine environments. We expect you to be interested in conducting experiments and running simulations as much as you are interested in leadership and attracting and supervising students. The projects are a part of DOTC’s aspiration to be a key player in the energy transition, and we are looking for ambitious colleagues who share this vision.

Qualifications
Ideally, you are an expert (with at least an MSc degree if you apply for a research assistant or a PhD degree if you apply for a postdoc position) with knowledge in environmental hydrogeology, biology, or biochemistry who is not afraid to apply their skills for conducting both (bio)reactive transport modelling and laboratory batch and column flooding experiments.

Plus points:

  • Experience or knowledge about aquatic environments
  • Writing and using scripts in Matlab or Python

Other important skills:

  • You are enterprising, proactive, can work with high level of independence, and have a can-do attitude.
  • You are not afraid of not knowing and high levels of uncertainty does not make you panic.
  • Good writing and communication skills in English. Publication record in peer reviewed journals is considered a plus.
