The mission is to be world leading in both research and research-based education of the energy engineers of the future. Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent.

The position(s) are offered in relation to the research program Offshore Drones and Robotics( and the Postdoc position(s) will be positioned in the Esbjerg Energy Section.
Research areas will be within underwater robotics, spanning from control design, dynamic simulations including hydrodynamic disturbances, sensor integration and sensor fusion. The primary goal is to design applications for inspection, monitoring and maintenance of subsea structures and infrastructure. The research will also include experimental testing both in laboratories and field tests at harbor facilities and potentially offshore.

The position(s) will be tasked with research and documentation targeting the ACOMAR robot. These tasks include instrumentation of sensors for underwater distance keeping and local positioning, control design and implementation and testing in both onshore pools and offshore environment. Furthermore, the position(s) are targeted towards developing smart monitoring of subsea infrastructure ensuring continuous supply of energy from offshore plants. This research includes dynamic simulations, sensor investigation and testing of sensor performance for various inspection needs.

The successful application prerequisite is that you demonstrate a documented expertise in most of the areas below:
Proven-research experiences in the following research topics:

  • Modelling of underwater vehicles including the impact from hydrodynamic loads.
  • Sensor integration and effects from environmental parameters.
  • Control for underwater vehicles, including linear and non-linear methods.
  • Fault analysis for underwater vehicles.

Proven-records in peer-reviewed publications in the most recognized control and underwater robotics journals.

Hands-on experience in experiment development and testing(e.g., hardware development, software implementation in various processor platforms) is required.

Strong English communication skills is mandatory.

Applicants must possess the ability to obtain and maintain security clearance level of TIL TJENESTEBRUG(i.e. for service use)(NATO RESTRICTED, RESTREINT UE/EU RESTRICTED) or higher.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
