Assistant Professor of single cell heterogeneity in cutaneous T cell lymphoma

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher who will join the skin inflammation and cancer group as assistant professor for a full time position in three years to commence as soon as possible.  

The appointee is expected to conduct research into the role of single cell heterogeneity in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and the implications of heterogeneity at the single cell level for the pathogenesis and drug resistance in cutaneous T-cell malignancies.

Our research

Our vision is to stop chronic inflammation and break the immune privilege (tolerance) of cancers. Our goal is to discover novel molecular disease targets, innovative therapies, and ways to modify the immune system to fight disease. Our mission is to unravel how disturbances in the immune defense lead to chronic inflammatory skin diseases and cancer.

We perform basic and translational research and have a close collaboration with clinicians at dermatology departments in Denmark, EU, and USA. We take an interdisciplinary approach to science and are collaborating with a large national and international network of researchers in areas such as immunology, microbiology, pharmacy, bioinformatics, cancer biology, veterinary and clinical medicine. We believe in teamwork and have an inclusive and supportive working environment in an international, open-minded atmosphere with a diversity of nationalities among group members and at the Department at large.

Your job

Our primary interests are skin inflammation and cutaneous T cell lymphoma (CTCL), which is characterized by the presence of malignant T cells in chronically inflamed skin. We focus on inflammatory skin responses, cytokine signaling, novel oncogenic pathways, cellular heterogeneity at the single cell level, crosstalk between malignant and non-malignant skin cells, and the role of bacterial products, metabolites, and toxins fueling chronic inflammation, malignant transformation and disease progression. Your tasks would be to conduct research into the role of single cell heterogeneity in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and the implications for the pathogenesis and drug resistance in cutaneous T-cell malignancies. These tasks involve tissue culture of primary cells, single cell transcriptomics, high-level multi-parameter flow-cytometry and cell sorting, and analysis of large sets of data and well as functional studies in vitro and in vivo of malignant and non-malignant T cells.

The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

• participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors

Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

• You have a PhD in immunology
• You are highly experienced in single cell transcriptomics (preferably ECCITE-Seq) using the 10X platform, high-level multi-parameter flow-cytometry, tissue culture of primary T cells, and working with experimental mice.
• You have experience from publishing as first author in recognized international, peer reviewed journals
• You have an active interest in cutaneous T cell lymphoma and disease heterogeneity, T cell development, T cell oncogenesis, and drug resistance.
• You have pre- and/or postgraduate teaching experience within immunology
• Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
• Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

• Experience from working with ex vivo sorting of diverse human and murine T cell subsets
• International research experience e.g. from being visiting scientists, research fellows, or as part of your post doc, or similar.
• You have experience from publishing as corresponding author in recognized international, peer reviewed journals
• Experience as supervisor and/or co-supervisor of PhD students or similar

The place of employment is at Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and access to state-of-the-art core-facilities for flowcytometry, single cell sequencing, microscopy, animal facilities etc.

Terms of employment

The employment as assistant professor is a full time and fixed-term position for 3 years. Starting date is June 1st, 2023, or after agreement.

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 37,617 DKK. Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.
