At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology, Aalborg University’s Copenhagen Campus a full-time position as Assistant Professor in Computer Graphics Imaging and Programming is open for appointment for a period of 3 years from January 15 2022 or soon hereafter. The candidate is expected to work in-person at the Copenhagen campus. The Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology has as its goal the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.


Job description

This position has its primary research and teaching areas in the general field of Computer Graphics (CG) in relation to multiple problem domains in graphics (rendering, animation, geometry, imaging). Applicants should have expertise in computer graphics programming, virtual simulations, visualizations, programmable functionalities of GPUs, graphics APIs such as OpenGL, GLSL and WebGL.

Applicants will be welcomed with competences and experience in related areas such as:

  • Development and technical knowledge of 3D real-time game engines such as Unity and Unreal
  • Motion capture, performance capture and kinematics
  • Modeling/animation/kinematics/rendering tools such as Maya, MotionBuilder and Blender
  • Algorithms for offline and real-time CG
  • GPU architectures in CG and ray-tracing GPU pipelines
  • CG for VR and AR
  • AI applications in CG (e.g. GAN model architecture).

Applicants will also be expected to document relevant teaching and publication records.

Teaching will primarily consist of coursework as well as supervision of project work in the Bachelor and Master programs of Media Technology which may be taught in English or Danish, as well as other educational programs within the Department, such as Lighting Design MSc.

Qualification requirements:
Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

Shortlisting will be applied. After the review of any objections regarding the assessment committee, the head of department, with assistance from the chair of the assessment committee, selects the candidates to be assessed. Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
