Offer Description

Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) now offers a new fellowship program, the CTU Global Postdoc Fellowship.

This new and attractive two-year fellowship-program offers excellent researchers who have recently completed their PhD the chance to continue their research career at CTU. Fellows receive a two year fellowship and become members of a team led by a mentor. The fellowship aims at external international scientists who are currently conducting research abroad. Applicants must have completed their PhD within the last seven years. The fellowship aims at authors (co-authors) of three or more publications in a journal with IF.  The fellowship is possible to prolong untill 3,5 year.

Research topics focus on exploring the energy community concept, which involves the integration of distributed renewable energy sources (RESs) and energy storage systems to address both the electrical and thermal needs of a building/district. The primary goal of these research activities is to advance the concept of autonomous energy communities (AECs) by considering social, architectural, and environmental aspects. The proposed idea centers on an integrated design approach for the energy systems at the building/neighborhood levels based on energy consumption, the potential of energy generators/storage systems at the local level, and community engagement (lifestyle).

Furthermore, the investigation extends to deploying energy flexibility, demand-side management, and vehicle-to-grid/vehicle-to-home (V2G/V2H) services within the smart grids and AECs framework. This exploration aims to empower buildings and districts to optimize their energy consumption, enhance energy efficiency, foster resiliency, prioritize the use of clean energy, and contribute to overall grid stability and other benefits such as costs and environmental aspects.

Skills/Qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher in the field of renewable, modern, and distributed energy systems. This exciting position entails active participation in ongoing national and international projects, providing an excellent opportunity for rapid professional growth.

The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in modeling and simulating renewable energy sources, including PV systems, wind turbines, and batteries. Additionally, proficiency in understanding building thermal needs and designing/simulating thermal energy sources such as heat pumps, CHP units, and thermal storage is crucial. Therefore, knowledge of the basics of smart control and operation optimization of the energy systems to fulfill the buildings’ electrical and thermal needs is necessary.

It is important to have proficiency in programming, ideally in MATLAB (or Python), and familiarity with specialized energy simulation software (Simulink, TRNSYS, EnergyPlus, etc.) is an advantage.

Successful candidates will also have a proven track record of publishing high-quality academic papers and presenting research findings at conferences. Excellent written and verbal English language skills, coupled with outstanding presentation abilities, are essential.

The suitable candidate has an active knowledge of the English language (written and verbal) and excellent presentation skills.
