Department of Plasma Physics and Technology (formerly the Institute of Physical Electronics) at the Faculty of Science of MU University provides courses and guarantees basic and applied research in the fields of plasma physics, plasma applications and nanotechnology. It has a tradition of more than 50 years. The CEPLANT Research and Development Centre for Plasma and Nanotechnology Surface Treatments was established in 2010 as part of the Institute of Physical Electronics and was funded by European Structural Funds and recognised as a Key Technology Centre (KET) by the European Union.

Job Description:

The assistant professor will be working within the research group Plasma diagnostics and modelling. She/he will be responsible for development and use of physical models and numerical simulations of studied plasmas and also for teaching of selected subjects. She/he will cooperate on data analysis and evaluation of experimental data with his colleagues and preparation of publications. We expect her/his involvement in projects of the group and her/his independent preparation and submission of her/his own project proposals, also in cooperation with industry. The assistant professor will also supervise bachelor, master and PhD students and will be involved in giving lectures and seminars.

The research group Plasma diagnostics and modelling is active in fundamental and applied oriented research of the physics and chemistry of low temperature plasmas for broad spectrum of applications, also in close cooperation with industry. The group deals with topics as gas conversion, deposition processes, characterisation and development of advanced products for electroengineering industry, plasma propulsion or ozone production.

Key duties:

  • Planing, development and application of computer models aimed for understanding of processes taking place in studied low-temperature plasmas
  • Computer processing of large data sets
  • Preparation of publications, working on projects, teaching a nd supervising students
  • Teaching in form of lectures and seminars

Skills and Qualifications

  • PhD. Title in plasma phsysics
  • International experience or experience in industry
  • Large experience in computer modelling of physical and chemical processes
  • Strong expertise in the field of numerical simulations
  • Ability of processing and analysing of large data sets using computers
  • Programming on high level
  • Solid communication skills (verbal and written) in English
  • Publication record in peer reviewed journals
  • The candidate must be able to work independently on assigned tasks and to formulate the solutions, to cooperate with other colleagues of the group as well as of other groups at the department, and to help students with their research work
  • Initiative and positive attitude to work
  • Ability to hold on deadlines
  • Solid knowledge operating MS Office, TeX, and programming languages
  • Independence, reliability, flexibility, communicative skills, pleasant behaviour
